For the love of lessons from the ocean, I like to go to island nations to meet other environmental artists and make something. This year in Maui and the Big Island in Hawai'i I explored the idea of representing human impacts to ocean, specifically plastic. The project for many turned out to be about movement in the ocean. This is apropos because we can extract the plastic from the great pacific garbage patch rendering this impact temporary and thus plastics are just passing through. When the solution is created it will be yet another mile marker for humanities movement through the great waters using ingenuity and courage to explore new ideas for problem solving. Here's to new thinking and being positive!
