Float - Due to Covid this project is on hold.
Float is a mobile design lab and residency program dedicated to water quality, circular economy and environmental design. Using a mix of art, social practice, citizen science, and design research, the program is intended to gather data, inspire artful experiences, and understand relationships to river ways around the world.
All things are dependent on water. The movement of it is beyond cultural and political borders. Thus, it is imperative to think about caring for water beyond cultural constructions and artifices. Float was create to inspire people to realize that what is done to water we ultimately do to ourselves. Direct educational experience on a vessel with its limited space, awareness of inputs and outputs, as a model of "spaceship earth" will help designers and thinkers use systems thinking and critical space to influence their research.
A few research topics:
- Water Quality - Water Sampling
- Community Engagement
- Stewardship Practices
- Critical Space Design
- Sound Scapes
We are open to a range of disciplines and project proposals. Due to our goals of gathering and mapping data, connecting to riverside communities, and sharing our stories of modern river ways; we are particularly excited to have urban and product designers, circular economy thinkers, social and water scientists involved.
